Training and Development Seminars

Author: Gary Taylor

Training and development seminars play a vital role to the success of a company if implemented correctly across the workforce. Here we look at some techniques that can be used to plan a successful event.

The format and agenda of the event are the first key points to consider before implementing a training and development seminar. What is it your wish to communicate to your staff and how are you going to go about it? Is the material appropriate to to rolled out in one go or could if be broken down into phases? Think about how your want to engage the attendees, is the training and development seminar formal or informal? Think about timings, convenience breaks, lunches etc. you want to ensure that the environment you are presenting in is a positive one. This will encourage and influence the attendees to make use of the event rather than see it as a chore.

Next you need to be thinking about what you want to achieve from the event; is there a message you want to convey? What response do you want people to give, have you considered how people may interpret what you are communicating? All these points, if considered are crucial to achieving the desired result, you, as the employer hope to achieve.

Other factors include, guest speakers, audience involvement and interaction, key learning initiatives and feedback sessions. These other training and development seminar techniques will be covered in further articles, for now though the aim is to bring to the table some form or structure and general roll out of the event and how you can tailor it to maximise results.
