Often we think about getting a lead and converting it to business, which is fine, but can we diasect the real secret behind prospecting. The secret lies within our own mind and our ability to study and lead people with knowledge and success. What are we really doing in our recruiting of leads and business associates in our network marketing. Unfortunately, most network marketers are looking for ‘builders’ even worse some network marketers are looking for those people who will build their downline for them.
If we take a step back and look at what we should really be doing in our network marketing we would find that our ‘building’ as little or nothing to do with us, nor should it. What we should be looking to do is help people find answers and solutions to their problems. Recruiting is about helping people get what they want, not what “you think” they want or what “you want”. So our mindset as network marketers should be along the lines of who is looking/wanting my product or service.
Once we take ourselves out of the equation, we can more readily understand how we can truly help our prospect. The first thing we have to understand is our product and then understand our prospect. What is your product or service in your network marketing company, not the opportunity, what is the product or products all about. We have to understand our product inside and out and then discover who needs, wants or has a desire for such product.
For instance lets take a health and wellness product. Lets say we have these awesome vitamins that help the immune system sustain a high level. What are the ingrediants? What is the retail cost? What color are they? How do they taste? Do they come in chewable form? I think you get the idea. All of these questions help us define our product and thus help define our market.
So the second step is, who is our market? Statistically who takes vitamins? Network marketers always fall into this trap, that everyone needs our vitamins so talk to everyone. UGH! I don’t even want to get started down that path, because the next line is everybody wants the opportunity as well. The reality of sales is that you have to target your market correctly and fill their need, want or desire with your product. So who wants our vitamins? The best place to start is with a list of people who already take vitamins! Furthermore we need to research what age group takes vitamins more, I am not an expert but I would say the 50-65 age range is where the bulk of vitamin users begin taking them. Then can this group afford our vitamins and please don’t tell me that they are free after the work the opportunity. Please stop that, we need to generate an income first then we can take those who stand up and say I want to do the opportunity as icing on the cake.
We can continue to discuss and understand our product and our prospects more, but what we want to do during this process is but things in motion as well. Take your best educated guess of who wants our vitamins and market to them. The numbers will prove out if you have the right market. And honestly, when you start generating those numbers, the understanding becomes greater and greater. Remember that marketing and networking is a science, science is all about experimentation and the study of the numbers of those experiments.
Additionally, the more you experiment and study the better and better network marketers you become. This marketing process is journey and a numbers game, we must learn to put the numbers in our favor. The best way to do this is have a long term perspective and look to help as many people as possible enjoy your product or service based on their needs, wants and desires.
