Why use Microsoft Project ?
Non users know it might be handy for drawing project schedules – but make do with an Excel imitation and fail to appreciate the powerful planning and tracking functionality. As project management becomes a core methodology underpinning most modern organizations it is time for companies and individuals to learn just how much more effective they could be by using Microsoft Project, alongside other everyday tools such as Word and PowerPoint.
Where do I start ?
There is no simple answer! It depends very much on your current familiarity with projects and project management software tools. You also need to take into account the skill sets that you are looking to achieve.

Throughout the chemical process industry, it’s difficult to think about plant monitoring without visualizing personnel on daily rounds laboriously filling out paper log sheets. Besides being a manual-intensive routine, this traditional monitoring approach primarily focuses only on documentation. Typically stored in filing cabinets, field data currently collected by most plants is lifeless, rarely reviewed for plant performance monitoring and trouble shooting. However, this outmoded approach is quickly giving way to an electronic monitoring system outside of the control room. Now plant operations data are wirelessly gathered on-site with handhelds, then fed into a hosted Web-based system. This system allows quick operational decisions based on the most accurate information, to save time and money. The current method’s only benefit is to ensure that operators actually make the rounds of equipment observation/inspection. Even then, operators tend to pencil-whip data without really observing the plant equipment. Since supervisors are busy with routine shift work, even experienced operators fail to recognize pit fall readings and prevent a plant shutdown or unsafe situation.

When an American businessman purchased an 800 year old mill on a 20 acre winery and olive orchard on a remote Italian Mediterranean island he knew that due to the lack of developed utilities on the island he would have to find a way to make his property sustainable and energy independent. He found it difficult to retain the services of a qualified engineer and contractor on the island to design, let alone build the extensive system he wanted. Through a referral by Warmboard Thermal Subfloors based in Aptos, he retained the services of Pacific Solar Radiant Inc. a design/build mechanical engineering, plumbing and heating company based in Santa Cruz, CA. Thanks to the experience, innovation and perseverance of mechanical engineer William Shady P.E. and master plumber Greg Cross, partners in Pacific Solar Radiant Inc., the vacation house and property will become completely sustainable and off-grid.

When identifying a need for a library a person must identify the needs to the organization or community. If, for example, we want to create a special library for a humane society or animal shelter that has a significant presence online then we must identify the needs of the veterinarians, veterinary technicians, gardeners, landscapers, Web development programmers, business development specialists, public relations staff, graphic designers, website managers, media producers, member services staff, marketing staff, adoption coordinators, vegetarian cooks, members, human resources staff, and volunteers. Not only would a library be beneficial for the workers and volunteers, but it would also supply the adopters with information on the care of their new cat or dog. The library would be open to visitors of the shelter and would be an area of attraction for potential adopters.
The needs of each animal can differ quite a bit and experts are rarely supervising, which demonstrates the need for organized and easily accessible information. While the collection of library materials needs to be diverse enough to correspond with the variety of clients, the collection must also be specific and specialized to adhere to the veterinarian-centered focus of the organization. The American Booksellers Association and BookWire, which gives access to thousands of book stores, will help with the selection of books. Another prime location for discovering appropriate books is on ALA’s Booklist site online. To get the library started with the initial round of serials I looked at veterinary libraries around the United States to get an idea of what they are using.

Oleg Systems Co. is a designer and manufacturer of industrial dust collection systems including dry type dust collectors. Dust collection equipment utilizing the principle of wet dust collecting is available in numerous designs utilizing a number of principles and featuring wide variation in effectiveness, initial cost, operating and maintenance expense, space, arrangements and material of construction.
The use of centrifugal force to throw a dust particle to the periphery of an air stream has been used in the cyclone collector for many years. Dry centrifugal dust collectors can be divided into two basic groups cataloged by their effectiveness in removal of smaller dust particles.
Cyclone Dust Collectors are frequently applied for the removal of coarse dusts from an air stream, as a pre-cleaner to more efficient dry or wet dust collectors and / or as a separator in product conveying systems using an air stream to transport material. Principle advantages are low cost, low maintenance and low pressure drop (in order 0.75″ to 1.5″ WG), but this type dust collector can not be used for collection of fine particles.

The modern British office is about as calm as a tent in a thunderstorm. The fast-paced winds of corporate life whip everything into an all-consuming froth of clutter through which we try to conduct our working lives. Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese art of placement, is now being employed to counter the endemic culture of corporate disorder with supporters including Richard Branson and Donald Trump. Liza Evans, the in-house Interior Designer and Feng Shui consultant for Executive Offices Group, creates harmonious working spaces by translating the discipline into an effective corporate instrument that helps businesses succeed in their market place.
Feng Shui is a discipline that explores the relationship between the natural and built environment. When Liza designs an office every detail of a building is taken into consideration including its location, direction and surroundings, as well as the positioning of its entrances, public spaces, and the office layout itself. In practical terms the main changes she effects involve a wholesale removal of clutter and the careful and subtle placement of objects in conjunction with complementary colour and texture combinations. The offices she creates have a sleek and contemporary interior design quality but are born of an art that has been honed by its practitioners over thousands of years.

The WBS shows how the project is subdivided into control packages, components that
can be further divided into work packages, the lowest level of work managed by the
project manager. Work packages are comprised of individual tasks that managers can
schedule. The WBS list of packages works much like a book’s table of contents, showing
chapters, sections and subsections. The WBS doesn’t just show the manager’s plan for
accomplishing tasks, it also briefl y describes each task.
